City of Red Deer seeks outstanding citizens

Nominations are now open for the Mayor’s Recognition Awards.

Nominations are now open for the Mayor’s Recognition Awards.

“One of my favourite things about Red Deer is the spirit of our citizens, and never has this spirit been more evident than over the past two years,” said Mayor Ken Johnston.

“This awards program gives us the chance to recognize these exceptional achievements and celebrate our most extraordinary citizens.”

The award honours individuals, groups and teams who have made a special contribution that has brought honour and recognition to Red Deer, the city said in a press release Monday. These awards are a way of acknowledging and congratulating our citizens for their accomplishments.

The deadline for nominations are April 19 at 9 a.m. The awards are open to anyone who lives in or contributes to our community. There are five award categories:

  • Athletics
  • Distinguished Voluntary Service
  • Fine & Performing Arts
  • Community Builder Award
  • Mayor’s Special Award

“While these awards recognize a broad range of achievements, we know many people have gone above and beyond to serve their community during the pandemic,” said Johnston.

“If you know a group, individual or team who has demonstrated tremendous resiliency, strength and generosity over the last two years, please consider nominating them for a Mayor’s Special Award.”

Typically, nominees are considered for an award only in the year immediately following the year in which the achievement occurred; however, as this year’s awards encompass two years, nominees will be considered for an award for two years following the year in which the achievement occurred.
