Coun. Lynne Mulder brought the motion to council after hearing from a citizen who is a volunteer member with Wellness Alberta. Mulder said the province spends more than 90 per cent of its health resources on treatment and management of chronic diseases, many which can be prevented.

“There is a projection with every dollar spent on prevention and promotion, (it saves the health-care system $4 or $5),” said Mulder.

Other municipalities have penned letters including St. Albert, County of Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.
