The City of Red Deer suspended snow removal on bus routes on Friday due to recent snowfall and the forecast promising more.

Crews are now concentrating on Priority 1 and Priority 2 roads, which are arterial roads with hills, bridges and high collision intersections and other arterial thoroughfares.

Plowing and sanding will continue around the clock.

“We have hired an additional seven graders to assist us in plowing operations, and our crews are out in full force,” said Jim Chase, the city’s road superintendent.

Beginning on Sunday, night crews will start snow removal on bridges, areas around the hospital, the downtown core and major intersections.

This work may take three or four evenings to complete. Workers will then return to Priority 3 roads, including collector roads on bus routes, in the downtown core, and residential streets adjacent to schools.

Public Works continues to address and monitor accessibility concerns due to drifting snow in residential neighbourhoods.
