A number of school buses across Central Alberta will not be running Thursday.

In a release Wednesday night, Clearview Public Schools said the decision not to operate buses “is the result of current and expected road conditions due to weather.”

“School buses will not operate for morning and afternoon services, as well as any planned field trips,” they said.

Schools in Clearview public district are still open.

“All students attending school are required to be prepared for severe weather conditions and shall carry with them appropriate winter footwear, outerwear, including headgear, and gloves or mitts.

Red Deer Catholic Schools also canceled school bus service for it’s rural schools due to the poor road conditions.

“School bus service for Red Deer Rural County areas of Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake and Red Deer County, school buses are canceled but the schools are open,” they said in a release.

Central Alberta was hit with it’s first big storm late Tuesday night and snow hit the area for much of the day Wednesday. Highway conditions were icy across much of Central Alberta throughout the day, resulting in a number of accidents.
