Registration for the city’s annual Composting at Home program opens Friday.

The city will enrol 200 households to compost in their own yards. Participants will be provided with a free compost bin, aerating tool and kitchen catcher, plus training and ongoing support on how to compost.

Residents who want to participate can go to www.reddeer.ca/composting starting Friday to register, or they can sign up earlier to be notified when registration opens. More than 175 people have already signed up to receive the e-mail reminder.

Since the program launched in March 2012, more than 1,000 households have committed to composting in their own backyard. This translates to about 100,000 kilograms of organic material being diverted from the landfill.
