Consort Hospital and Care Centre emergency department is temporarily without on-site physician coverage, says Alberta Health Services.

The department has been without a doctor the week of June 28, but coverage will resume on July 5 at 9 a.m.

In a statement, AHS said it was working to ensure local residents continued to have access to the care they need. Nursing staff remained on-site in the emergency department providing triage and assessments, and referrals for patients to alternate emergency departments in surrounding communities as needed.

Long-term care and community support beds are not impacted by the disruption.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS will transport patients requiring emergency care to nearby facilities, including Coronation Hospital and Care Centre about 50 km away.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency, health-related questions.

AHS said it was grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and thanked the community for its patience and understanding.
