Firefighters with the Rimbey Fire Department keep a close eye on a controlled burn of a farm house about 10 km south of Rimbey at Range Road 30 and Township Road 414. Jimmy Jaffray, 97, built the home in 1952. Jimmy’s son, Larry, who grew up in the house and still works at the farm, wanted to build a new home on the site. He failed to find a buyer for the building, and because demolishing it would be too expensive, he invited the Rimbey Fire Department to use it as a training tool to study burn patterns and how walls and floors give way.
