40,136 Smile Cookies sold

Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie Campaign raised $40,136 for the summer Reading College program to help students entering Grade 2 improve their literacy skills.

The $1 cookie campaign ran for a week in September and money raised was presented on Tuesday by local Tim Hortons owners to the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools for its reading program.

Each year 60 students attend the Reading College held at Red Deer College where they receive intensive literacy supports to improve their skills and increase their interest and motivation to read and write. Students also participate in fun activities and events at the college.

The Optimist Clubs of Central Alberta have been a founding partner in the program along with Red Deer College, Prairie Bus Lines, Chartwells and other donors.
