UPDATE: Coronation E-Free church burns; fire crews respond

In an update to the Sept. 5 church fire in Coronation, RCMP media relations confirmed that a suspect had been identified, charged, and subsequently released pending a court date in relation to this incident.

In an update to the Sept. 5 church fire in Coronation, RCMP media relations confirmed that a suspect had been identified, charged, and subsequently released pending a court date in relation to this incident.

Around the time of the fire, an individual was spotted going behind the church carrying a gas can; when officers attended the scene the gas can was subsequently recovered.

The suspect was identified and arrested a short time later.

As charges have not yet been sworn before the courts, the name of the suspect has yet to be released.

Shortly before 1 p.m. on Sept. 5, the Coronation RCMP received word of a fire at the Evangelical Free Church in that community.

Fire crews and EMS responded as well, however, were unable to save the building.

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues, and more updates will come as they are made available.
