Coal mining on Alberta’s Eastern Slopes will be the focus of a rally hosted by the Council of Canadians on Friday.
The council’s Red Deer chapter is holding the event at 1 p.m. in City Hall Park.
“The public is invited to hear up-to-date information for citizens who are determined to protect our mountains and watersheds,” says the council.
Speakers are from the southern and western mountain areas, which are under direct threat from open pit surface coal mines, says the council. Others will express their concerns about the impact that coal mining may have on watersheds.
Those attending are reminded to observe the latest health restrictions.
