A Blackfalds town councillor has been recognized for her efforts to promote healthy lifestyles.

Blackfalds Coun. Carol Simpson was presented with an elected community leader award by the Alberta Parks and Recreation Association. The award was part of their 2013 Lieutenant Governor’s leadership for active community awards, which are presented every other year.

She received the award on June 1 at the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton.

The awards are presented to individuals who demonstrate the very best of active community leadership, engaging citizens in planning, using leadership to get people more active more often and work to create places, spaces and opportunities for people to be active and engage in their communities, using recreation as a catalyst.

The next awards will be presented in 2015.
