County kids photo contest extended

Red Deer County’s Kids Photo Contest deadline has been extended so contestants can submit photos from the Family Day weekend.

Red Deer County’s Kids Photo Contest deadline has been extended so contestants can submit photos from the Family Day weekend.

The deadline for contestants to submit their photos online to countynews@rdcounty.ca was originally set for Feb. 15. It is now Feb. 24.

“One of the categories is My Family so we thought why not bump it back so the weekend can be included?” said Anisa Ahmad, the county’s communications and information specialist.

Ahmad says this is the first time the county has done a photo contest involving categories such as Where I Live, My Farm, Where I Play, My Favourite Places in the County and My Family and Friends.

“We have an amateur photo contest every year, sometimes twice a year, but we thought it would be really interesting to get the kids’ point of view,” she said. “Give your kids the camera and let’s see what they come up with according to those categories.”

The contest, which is calling on children up to age 18, will provide a first-place prize of a digital camera. Every contestant will also receive a prize, Ahmad said.

The photos, which can be used by county publications and on their website, will be judged anonymously by a group of staff from different departments.

No county staff or their family members are permitted to take part in the contest.
