All youths who participate in combined teenage/adult activities at City of Red Deer facilities will be screened for COVID starting Tuesday.

The Government of Alberta has updated youth screening requirements under the Provincial Restrictions Exemption Program.

Effective Tuesday, the city will have to begin screening all youth aged 12-17 when they are participating in combined adult/youth activities.

This means, if a 12-17 year old is involved in an activity where individuals 18 years and over may also be participating, proof of vaccination, medical exemption or negative COVID-19 test will be required, just as it is for adult participants.

“This change will impact our sport rental groups and most drop-in programs such as drop-in skating, swimming and field house use, as well as many fitness programs.” states a release from the city.

“Over the course of the next couple of days and weeks, the city will be adding youth-only drop-in opportunities at our facilities. These opportunities will be listed online when available at www.reddeer.ca/RecUpdate.”

The REP allows for 12-17 year olds participating in youth-only programming to continue without proof of vaccination, medical exemption or negative COVID-19 test.

More information about the Restriction Exemption Program, including acceptable proof of vaccination, medical exemption or negative test result, is available here: https://www.alberta.ca/covid-19-public-health-actions.aspx.
