Crash closes Hwy 2A early Thursday

A section of Hwy 2A between Red Deer and Blackfalds was closed early Thursday morning after a crash in front of Precision Drilling.

A section of Hwy 2A between Red Deer and Blackfalds was closed early Thursday morning after a crash in front of Precision Drilling.

Red Deer RCMP were called to the two-vehicle collision near Range Road 391 and Hwy 2A at about 1 a.m. On scene, they found a northbound truck and a southbound car had collided, sending the car into the ditch.

Red Deer Emergency Services also attended the scene and extracted the female driver from the car. The male driver of the truck was able to exit his vehicle on his own.

Both drivers were taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Hwy 2A was closed for a some time early Thursday morning to allow for an RCMP collision analyst to investigate and for cleanup to take place.

Police said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.
