Watch some of the best athletes in Alberta throw down at Riot on the River in Red Deer on Saturday.

Pure Fitness Crossfit will host close to 100 athletes at its first crossfit competition at the facility at 5230 53rd Ave.

Co-owner Kelly MacDonald said everyone is welcome to watch the event and to see what crossfit is all about.

There is no cost.

“It’s going to be fun,” said MacDonald. “This is the first time we have hosted our own competition where we have athletes coming from out of town. We are really excited.” Mixed teams of two will compete in four workouts that feature Olympic weightlifting, rowing, gymnastic skills and other movements.

There are Rx (prescribed) and scaled divisions.

The fun gets underway at 9 a.m. and wraps up about 4:30 p.m.

Food trucks such as Peppermint Andy’s, the Stache and other vendors will be on site.
