Curtis Martinek was the big winner at Red Deer’s Employee Recognition Awards Banquet.

The projects superintendent with Recreation, Parks and Culture took home the Bob Stollings Memorial Award at the banquet Friday night.

Throughout the night, long-term service employees were recognized for their commitment to the city, receiving recognition for innovation, environmental sustainability, for being future leaders in the organization and for other job-related accomplishments.

The Bob Stollings Memorial Award, established by city council in 1985, is presented every year to an employee who “has displayed outstanding civic performance in alignment with the city’s cornerstone values – respect, integrity, service and excellence,” a city press release said.

Martinek has led many major projects for the City of Red Deer, which has him working alongside city staff, local agencies and third-party contractors.

Kristy Svoboda, Red Deer director of human resources, said the award is the city’s most prestigious award.

“Curtis has proven over the years that he is an invaluable asset to our organization, he truly embodies our corporate values in every aspect of his role, making him the perfect recipient for this year’s honour,” said Svoboda.

Nominations for the Bob Stollings Memorial Award are submitted by co-workers, detailing the employee’s achievements professionally and interpersonally, along with letters of support.

The award is presented to honour Robert (Bob) E. Stollings, a loyal and dedicated employee of the City of Red Deer from 1960 to 1984.
