RHONDA HAMILL
Rhonda Hamill knew she could not turn down the chance to be a participant at the Sheraton Celebrity Dance Off 2019.
At a past Dance Off, she recalled how a dancer told people that if they had the opportunity to compete, do it!
“That’s always stuck in the back of my head,” said Hamill, who didn’t want to regret letting her chance slip away.
Now that her time has come, she said it’s scary, but conquering the challenge is rewarding and fun.
“It’s probably illegal to have this much fun. I laugh a lot,” said Hamill, who is dancing with Robin Berube.
“It’s something different, new, exciting.”
She said their choreography is complete, with just a few tweaks required, and she’s learning to take to the dance floor with attitude as her daughters, who have taken dance classes, have advised.
“I’ve never danced before. It’s stretched me in ways I thought I could never be stretched — physically, mentally, community wise.”
Hamill’s family has owned and operated the Dairy Queens in Red Deer for 52 years. The establishments have been involved in a variety of funding efforts for Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and Stollery Children’s Hospital.
This year, the Friends of the Red Deer Hospital will benefit from the Dance Off and Hamill has admired how the group helps patients and their families.
