A holiday joy ride in a stolen vehicle ended in an arrest for a 28-year-old Red Deer man.

Late Wednesday, police received reports of an impaired driver, which were linked to a stolen vehicle being driven dangerously earlier in the day.

RCMP located the vehicle and the driver was asleep, but when they approached, the driver woke up and fled the area, striking multiple vehicles and a tree. Later in the evening, police located the vehicle again and when they approached, the driver rammed three police cars, several other parked vehicles and a fence, before attempting to flee again in another occupied vehicle.

The suspect was eventually arrested without further incident and no officers or members of the public were injured.

As a result of the encounter, police are reminding the public to refrain from leaving vehicles running with the keys inside.
