The body found on the frozen Waskasoo Creek near Taylor Drive on Thursday morning has been identified as a 20-year-old Red Deer man.

Red Deer City RCMP say next of kin have been notified, but his name is not being released.

The young man’s body was discovered in the wooded area near northbound lanes of Taylor Drive between 32nd and 43rd Streets, just north of the old train trestle.

Foul play is not suspected at this time.

“At this point, we have very few details. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Calgary Medical Examiner’s office,” said RCMP Const. Sabrina Grunow on Thursday afternoon.

Last night the temperature dropped to -25C with a windchill around -30C.

The discovery was reported to police at about 10 a.m.

An RCMP dog and handler combed the area, along with investigators.

After the discovery, one of the northbound lanes was blocked off by police who ran yellow crime tape from the road to the woods.

A walking trail runs near the area, along Taylor Drive.
