Deadly Castor fire deemed suspicious by RCMP

Police are calling the deaths of a Castor family suspicious after confirming remains from the burnt out farmhouse are those of the father and daughter.

Police are calling the deaths of a Castor family suspicious after confirming remains from the burnt out farmhouse are those of the father and daughter.

Gordon Klaus, 61, and his daughter Monica Klaus, 40, have been identified as the deceased from the burned farmhouse in Castor on Dec. 8.

Sandra Klaus, 62, has not been accounted for. The family has been missing since Dec. 8. Monica Klaus lives in Stettler but had been visiting her parents at the family farm.

The farmhouse on Range Road 132 in the County of Paintearth, near Castor, burned down on Dec. 8. Human remains were found in the house. The Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the names of the deceased on Monday.

The investigation is ongoing.
