Deferral period for Red Deer utility bills ends June 15

Late penalties will be applied as of June 19

Red Deerians take note: The city’s utility bill payment deferral ends soon.

The city had allowed a 90-day deferral period for utility payments in recognition that many people are experiencing COVID-19-related financial hardship.

This grace period ends June 15.

The city is reminding customers that starting June 19, a 1.5 per cent late penalty will be added to outstanding balances.

“The deferral period is being lifted to avoid additional pressure on the tax base that would result in rate increases in years to come,” states a release from the city.

As many citizens could still be feeling significant economic impact stemming from the pandemic, flexible payment plans are available.

Anyone needing to arrange a payment plan should contact the city before their bill’s due date by phoning 403-342-8111 or going online to utilities@reddeer.ca.
