Derailment, detour, result of fatal overnight truck-CN train crash in Alberta

The driver of a semi has been killed in a collision with a CN freight train in northwestern Alberta.

NAMPA — The driver of a semi has been killed in a collision with a CN freight train in northwestern Alberta.

Canadian National Railway says the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 2 in the village of Nampa, about 460 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.

Eleven empty tanker cars derailed, but no dangerous goods spilled.

The truck driver was the only occupant of the truck, but police have not released a name.

No member of the crew aboard the northbound train was injured.
