A dinner and auction held earlier this month has raised $75,000 toward helping women and children who are escaping family violence.

The Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter Society held its 18th annual Destinations Dinner and Auction on March 8, exactly meeting the goal set to ensure continuation of its programs for another year, marketing and development manager Anna Robertshaw said on Monday.

That’s up $10,000 from last year’s target and roughly one-third of the organization’s annual budget.

“We had really great community support. We couldn’t be happier,” said Robertshaw.

Funds are targeted to key programs, including the shelter’s 24-hour crisis line and its child support program.
