Discovery Wildlife Park in Innisfail is taking care of two new grey wolf pups.

Highlander and Sassenach are a month old. The two will join Nissa and Lupe, two orphaned wolves currently being cared for at the facility.

“We have hoped for years that our wolf pack may have the opportunity to grow, and now it has,” the wildlife park said in a news release Thursday.

Highlander and Sassenach were born March 23 and came from Ontario’s Safari Niagara. They were born into a litter of six – the mother struggled to nurse all of them.

Safari Niagara contacted Discovery Wildlife Park, hoping it would provide them with a forever home.

“It will take time for them to grow, but we are very excited to work towards introducing them to our girls in the future,” the release said.

“We knew that taking in these pups at this time was a bit of a risk without truly knowing what the future holds, but the quality of life for all the wolves involved outweighed that risk and we just could not say no.”
