A donation page for Red Deer’s Cote family was launched on Monday.

The Cote family has been beset by a tragic string of incidents the past 10 years, culminating in the death of husband Eric Cote in a multi-car pile up on Highway 2 on March 6. The three surviving members, Ghislane Moreault, 44, and daughters Marilou, 8, and Patricia, all have a genetic form of cancer that is going to require treatment for the rest of their lives. Due to a number of circumstances they are also in danger of being homeless.

Red Deer businessman Craig Howes, who held Cote as he died, has set up an online page on the website youcaring.com to help globalize the fundraising effort for the family, which has already seen donations come in from around the region.

The key for Howes is to develop a sustainable fund for the family, eventually using some of them to develop an online business or means for Moreault to generate income herself.

“We’d like to create something that gives them a lot longer outlook than just the next few months or the next year,” said Howes.
