Downtown Red Deer gets new portable washroom

To operate Monday to Friday

Portable washrooms will open for the public on June 15 in downtown Red Deer.

Located in front of the Red Deer Downtown Business Association’s office, at 5009 50th Ave., the washrooms are a pilot project and will operate Monday to Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

The city worked with the business association to set up temporary washrooms for 2021. The cost was covered by $20,000 worked into the 2021 city budget.

Council also approved $45,000 to rent a trailer-like portable washroom in 2022. It will be set up “strategically,” to create a safe environment, meet the needs of a variety of users, have minimal impact on the surrounding community, and to learn “specific information” about restroom usage.
