A 25-year-old Red Deer man faces a number of charges following a serious collision with a cyclist.

At approximately 3 a.m., RCMP were called to the intersection of 32nd Street and Mitchell Avenue.

Several passersby provided first aid to the 17-year-old male victim until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre in critical condition and was airlifted by STARS to Edmonton shortly afterward. He remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.

Eric William Petty faces charges of refusal to provide a breath sample; dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing bodily harm; and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Petty is scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on July 21.
