Fleeing from police, a driver rolled a vehicle and became trapped underneath it.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP respond to a reported impaired driver of a small vehicle on the Sunchild First Nation on Monday at about midnight. Reports also indicated a suspect wanted on outstanding warrants for violent offences may also be in the vehicle.

Officers found the car and attempted to stop it. Instead of stopping, the vehicle fled from police and narrowly missed one of the officers trying to stop it.

Police attempted to catch up to the fleeing vehicle, but lost sight of it after it turned into the O’Chiese First Nation. Police ceased their pursuit and patrolled the area south of where it was last seen.

A passerby stated they had seen the suspect vehicle in the ditch north of their location.

According to police, the driver had lost control, entered the ditch and rolled within minutes of officers losing sight of the vehicle. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and became trapped under it when it came to rest on its wheels. The male passengers fled on foot, leaving the woman trapped.

Officers on scene and bystanders were able to lift the vehicle enough to remove the trapped driver, a 24-year-old, and provide first aid. She was taken to hospital by emergency medical services and then STARS Air Ambulance. Police said she suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
