A man arrested in a huge January cocaine bust in Red Deer was sentenced to six years in prison.

Chuot Le pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking in Red Deer provincial last week. Le, who was 57 at the time of arrest on Jan. 4, was also given a lifetime weapons ban.

Red Deer RCMP seized a kilogram of cocaine during the bust — one of the largest cocaine seizures in recent years.

Police said the drug was found during a search of a Highland Green apartment and vehicle as part of a drug trafficking investigation that began Dec. 8.

Le was arrested during a traffic stop in a north Red Deer parking lot. His apartment was searched later that morning where they found 1,049 grams of cocaine and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Police said much of the cocaine was packed into one-ounce packages. Enough drugs were seized for 5,200 to 15,000 individual doses.
