A 25-year-old man was arrested after police discovered cash and cocaine in a Ponoka apartment.

At 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Ponoka RCMP were called to a local apartment building to investigate a complaint of assault. Officers entered a male’s apartment and saw white powder, believed to be cocaine, in small packages. Police also saw a large amount of cash in plain view.

RCMP officers later obtained a search warrant and seized several drug-related items and $9,000 in cash.

Matthew Thomas Somerville, 25, of Ponoka, is charged with trafficking, possession of property obtained through crime, and breach of recognizance. He’s in custody at the Edmonton Remand Centre and will appear in Ponoka provincial court, via closed circuit television, on Friday morning.
