EDMONTON — A charge of animal cruelty has been laid after a distressed dog was found locked in a parked vehicle on a hot day in Edmonton.

The outside temperature was 28 C when the panting collie-cross was discovered Monday afternoon at a location on the city’s west side.

The dog was rescued by firefighters, then taken to a veterinarian for treatment of thermal distress.

The animal was later reported to be responding well to emergency care.

It’s not known how long the canine had been locked up before it was rescued.
