Edmonton resident hospitalized with measles: health officials

Alberta health officials are advising people that they may have been exposed to measles at two Edmonton-area locations earlier this month.

EDMONTON — Alberta health officials are advising people that they may have been exposed to measles at two Edmonton-area locations earlier this month.

Alberta Health Services says an Edmonton resident has been hospitalized with the highly contagious illness.

The health agency says exposure could have occurred at Bon Accord Foods on the evening of April 11 or the Redwater Health Centre between April 13 and April 15.

Individuals who were at the two locations may be at risk of developing measles if they have not already had the illness or been properly vaccinated.

Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a red blotchy rash.

Alberta Health Services says anyone with symptoms should stay home and consult with Health Link before going to a health-care facility.
