A benefit for the Leslieville Elks was held Feb. 3 at the Leslieville Community Centre

More than $53,000 was raised to help the rebuild the Elks Hall in Leslieville.

A fire destroyed the Elks Hall in late December. A 17-year-old youth from Clearview County is facing arson charges.

Theresa Jamieson and Jennifer Heyland, owners of Hooterville Hilton Cafe in Leslieville hosted the recent fundraiser. They hoped to raise $50,000 to helped the Elks rebuild and move on.

“Hopefully this helps the rebuild go a bit quicker,” they said in a Facebook post.

Even before the silent auction took place on Feb. 3, the cafe owners said they had somewhere around $20,000 in cash donations, which had been safely secured in the bank.
