A Red Deer Emergency Services crew rescued a deer that fell through the ice at Bower Ponds on Tuesday evening.

The five-person team cut a channel through the ice from the shore to where the deer had been struggling to free itself.

The deer swam to the bank but didn’t have the strength to get out of the water so crews helped pull the deer out and on to solid ground.

The animal was left resting on the side of the water and appeared to be in good shape when the crew left Bower Ponds.
