Environment Canada has issued a weather warning as heavy snowfalls are expected in central Alberta.

Heavy bands of snow are moving through central Alberta and the Edmonton area extending as far north as Slave Lake and as far south as Drumheller.

“Visibility will be greatly reduced while under these bands, in some cases to less than 500 metres and snow will accumulate quickly,” said Environment Canada in its warning issued at 10:14 a.m.

About 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in many areas. Visibility may be poor and drivers should be careful.

With temperatures hovering around 0 C, roads could be slippery.
