Environmental report released by city

The City of Red Deer released its Environmental Master Plan report card to the community on Friday.

The City of Red Deer released its Environmental Master Plan report card to the community on Friday.

Distribution of the Our Environment, Our Role Report to the Community is part of the city’s plans to inform residents and partners about the steps being taken to improve the environment.

The report was included with Friday’s Advocate.

The second annual report came to city council earlier this month. It highlights the progress made on seven focus areas of water, ecology, transportation, built environment, air, energy, and waste.

This year, the report places more emphasis on the role of residents in creating a better environment. Practical tips for actions such as conserving water and energy, and reducing emissions were highlighted.

Coupons are included for savings on mulch and rain barrels, as well as reminders to take free transit on World Car Free Day and check out a Home Energy Audit Kit at the Red Deer Public Library.

The report is available at city facilities and online at www.reddeer.ca/environmentalmasterplan.
