Expected byelection call on Calgary-Greenway has opposition parties scrambling

A byelection call for the riding of Calgary-Greenway has opposition parties scrambling to catch up.

EDMONTON — A byelection call for the riding of Calgary-Greenway has opposition parties scrambling to catch up.

Premier Rachel Notley is expected to call the byelection on Tuesday, putting polling day on March 22.

Alberta's Wildrose party says as a result, it will move up its nomination day by a week to this Friday.

The Progressive Conservatives say the Calgary-Greenway Progressive Conservative board will decide whether to leave the nomination day in place this Saturday, move it up, or appoint a candidate.

The NDP have already nominated a candidate, and both opposition parties say Notley should respect the democratic process and wait until other parties have their candidates in place.

The riding was held by PC member Manmeet Bhullar, who was killed last November in a car crash.
