Extreme wind chill values of -40 C to -45 C will continue to affect most of central and northern Alberta this morning.

But Environment Canada said rising temperatures will bring an end to these extremely cold wind chills by the weekend.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk and frostbite can happen.

In Red Deer, 15 km/h winds means the morning wind chill will reach -40 C and -26 C in the afternoon.

The wind continues tonight, with a wind chill of -31 C.

Environment Canada advises people to dress in warm clothes and layers that so clothes can be removed if they get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

And if it’s too cold for a human to stay outside, it’s too cold for a pet to stay outside.

Red Deer Catholic Schools cancelled all rural school bus service in Red Deer County due to the extreme cold.

However, rural schools remain open.
