A Calgary family doctor is being suspended for having sex with one of his patients.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta says Dr. William Healley will be suspended for a minimum of 10 months starting Jan. 1.

The college says he must also pay the $35,000 cost of the investigation into his misconduct and meet other conditions before he can resume his medical practise.

A college tribunal also found Healley guilty of unbecoming conduct for continuing to treat the woman’s two young children during the time they were having a sexual relationship.

When he goes back to work Healley will need a chaperon present when treating female patients.

He must also attend a course about proper boundaries between physicians and patients for a minimum of five years.
