Despite the cold, this weekend is one of the biggest of the year for fishing enthusiasts across the province.

The Family Day weekend marks one of just two family fishing weekends of the year, when Albertans can fish for free between Feb. 13-15.

This week, starting on Feb. 8 was also Alberta Fishing Week.

“Fishing is a fun way to create long-lasting memories with our friends and family while connecting with some of this province’s greatest natural resources – our lakes, rivers, streams, and the fish species that call them home,” said Minister of Environment and Parks Jason Nixon.
