A 27-year-old Red Deer man died after a semi truck and pickup collided on Thursday on Highway 11, just west of Red Deer.

The collision happened around 11:30 a.m. near Burnt Lake Trail.

Blackfalds RCMP said the 51 year old driver of the semi truck, Eckville, was not injured.

The semi was traveling west on Highway 11 when it collided with the southbound pick up travelling on Burnt Lake Trail. RCMP continue to investigate.

At 3:36 p.m. the highway was reopened, according to 511 Alberta.

In December, two people died in a three-vehicle collision on Highway 11 between Sylvan Lake and Red Deer, further west from Thursday’s collision scene, between Range Roads 283 and 284.

An eastbound SUV had lost control and collided with a westbound SUV. The two female occupants of the eastbound SUV were declared dead at the scene. The two occupants of the westbound SUV were taken to hospital.
