Fatal crash leads to major drug bust in Rocky

Rocky RCMP have charged one man and seized 77 kg of marijuana with a street value of $600,000.

Police say the packaged marijuana was found concealed within the box of a truck. All in all police have catalogued more than 350 exhibits.

A 51-year-male driver of a truck involved in a crash that killed a pedestrian on Hwy 11 on Nov. 22 near Rocky Mountain House is now facing drug possession and trafficking charges.

On Nov. 27, Rocky RCMP executed a search warrant on his vehicle and following an extensive catalogue of over 350 exhibits, 171 lbs of packaged marijuana was found concealed within the box of the truck.

The drug shipment was believed to be travelling from British Columbia to Alberta.

The suspect is scheduled to attend court in Rocky Mountain House on January 8, 2014.
