Federal government makes land available for affordable housing in Banff

BANFF — The federal government is making land available for affordable housing in the popular Rocky Mountain resort community of Banff.

The land is for the development of multi-unit rental housing.

Banff Mayor Karen Sorensen says the community needs more affordable housing for people who work in the area.

She says the shortage affects the ability of the community to provide services to park visitors.

The Town of Banff council still needs to approve the decision.

Parks Canada says last year about 3.6 million people visited or passed through Banff National Park.
