EDMONTON — Figures from Alberta Health Services show a 46 per cent jump since last week in the number of people across the province who have received a flu shot.
The department, which is promoting a theme this year of “get protected, not infected,” says the current total stands at 848,771 vaccinations.
There have been 148 confirmed cases of both influenza A and B in Alberta in recent weeks, with A being the most prevalent strain.
More than 40 people have been hospitalized.
AHS also says there have been six flu-related deaths since the end of August, with three of them occurring in Edmonton.
Health officials recommend flu shots annually for all Albertans six months of age and older.
