Firefighters called to senior’s care facility in Olds

Firefighters were called to a senior’s care facility in Olds.

Just after 7:30 a.m. Friday, firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 5600 Sunrise Cres.

Crews found that part of the building’s mechanical system had failed, causing excessive heat to build up.

Residents were kept in their rooms while the situation was managed.

“Building safety systems functioned as designed, and the risk to residents was minimized by fast action and reporting,” an Olds Fire Department release said.

“Social distancing and isolation practices were kept in place for the safety of residents and staff, which adds more complex aspects to how the situation was handled.”

There was no structural damage or injuries reported.
