To raise awareness for Fire Prevention Week, Red Deer elementary school students recently had the opportunity to learn about fire and injury prevention in their home with their school and families. Students were also given the opportunity to enter a draw at their school for the chance to become ‘Fire Chief for a Day”. This year’s winner was Brianna VanderVeer of Oriole Park School, seen here being crowned by Fire Chief Jack McDonald in front of her entire class. Along with receiving a digital camera, Brianna was picked up from school by a pumper truck and taken to Fire Station No. 2 for a tour. She was then taken back to her school, where her entire class was treated to a pizza party.
