Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that broke out late Friday night at Body Basics fitness centre in Capstone.
Deputy Chief Chris Kearns said no one was in the building at the time of the fire, but a nearby staff member noticed the fire and called 911. Emergency crews arrived shortly before 11 p.m.
“The front lobby area was on fire and it went into the ceiling and the roof. It was quite a stubborn fire,” Kearns said.
He said firefighters went inside the building to put out hot spots and also attacked the fire from the roof. Work continued on the roof throughout the night.
“The fire was trapped between a couple different layers in the roof structure.”
He said there was extensive smoke and water damage to the building.
