Fire destroys rural home near Lacombe

Occupants all escaped safely

A rural residence near Lacombe was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday evening.

Firefighters from four communities attended the fire that occurred east of Lacombe on Hwy 12. All the occupants of the residence safely escaped the blaze that occurred shortly after 6 p.m.

Lacombe Fire Department, with mutual aid assistance from Blackfalds, Bentley and Clive departments, attended the fire.

The home was completely engulfed in flames and destroyed, however firefighters kept the fire from spreading to surrounding trees and vehicles.Hwy 12 had to be closed for a time to allow water to be shuttled quickly to the scene.

Firefighters worked for more than five hours on site to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

The cause has not been determined and is under investigation.
