With the increasingly warm and dry weather, conditions across central Alberta have become more conducive to wildfires.

Both Lacombe County and Red Deer County issued fire restrictions this week as a result of the weather changes.

As of Thursday, Red Deer County placed a restricted fire order, which means all outdoor fires in the county should be extinguished, any new fires are prohibited and no new fire permits will be issued.

The ban does not apply to barbecues and residential fire pits.

Lacombe County put a similar restriction in effect Tuesday, cancelling all current fire permits and suspending any fire permit request until conditions improve.

They recommend taking extra care to ensure burns are completely extinguished.

This fire restriction may be elevated to a fire ban at any time and will remain in effect until conditions improve.
