Five new projects will come to the City of Lacombe thanks to the 2018 recreation and culture grant program.

“The approved 2018 projects will benefit many in our community,” said Sandi Stewart, recreation and culture manager.

“The City of Lacombe is working with organizations to address community needs by providing funding to run new recreation and culture programs and initiatives.”

This is the fifth year of the recreation and culture grant program. The purpose of the program is to support new local programs and services that enhance the quality of life for residents through recreation and/or culture.

Five groups received a total of $8,000 for projects through the program:

  • Lacombe Arts Guild received $1,250 for its Fall Conference of the Arts project
  • Lacombe Historical Society received $700 for its Skills for Homesteaders project
  • Lacombe Performing Arts Centre Foundation received $4,000 for its Culture Programming project
  • Maddox Dance Co. received $1,250 for its Lacombe Dance Theatre project
  • Young Adults of Lacombe received $800 for its YALA Jump Start project

“The City of Lacombe is excited to collaborate with these organizations to provide Lacombians with opportunities to enjoy recreation and culture experiences in supportive physical and social environments,” Stewart said.

The Lacombe and District Recreation Parks and Culture board approved the grants at its meeting Tuesday.

Grant submissions totalling almost $22,000 were received for consideration.
